The Leadership Transition Check
A readable reflection for your first year in a bigger role.
A fictional London coaching practice.
Request a callNine statements to read and reflect on. This is a reflection, not a diagnosis or a test you can pass or fail. A scored interactive assessment is a quoted extra and is not built here.
Clarity
- I can explain in two sentences what my role must deliver this year.
- I know which of my old responsibilities I should stop doing.
- My manager and I agree on how my success will be judged.
Influence
- I have a working relationship with each peer my results depend on.
- My team can make most day-to-day decisions without me.
- I can get a hearing for a new idea outside my own team.
Capacity
- I have at least two hours a week for thinking, not meetings.
- My workload this month feels sustainable.
- I know who I'd ask for honest advice about this role.
The source scale runs from 1, “Not like me yet”, to 5, “Very like me”. You can consider each statement on paper. No answers are collected.
Worked example
A synthetic example: Clarity 13 (“A strength”), Influence 8 (“Building”), Capacity 6 (“Focus here first”). Capacity is the suggested starting point in that example. These labels do not measure ability.
Two suggestions for Capacity: block two hours a week for thinking and protect it like a meeting; name one person outside your reporting line you can ask for candid advice.
